Who We Are
Local Futures is an international non-profit organization dedicated to renewing ecological and social well-being by strengthening communities and local economies worldwide. Local Futures Ladakh, focuses on economic localisation through policy advocacy, workshops, dialogues and awareness raising in Ladakh. We also screen films and host discussions. Our Ladakh team works to sustain traditional agricultural practices and help in the rural spaces of Ladakh. We also promote alternatives to consumerism.
Relocalizing Food Systems
We believe that the food is an integral part of a community which binds us together, all the other activities are related to either production, consumption or distribution of the food system & local economy.
Promoting Local Knowledge systems
It is essential to promote traditional knowledge in Ladakh today. These practices have been developed over generations and are finely tuned to the local conditions inculcating sustainable agriculture, efficient use of limited water resources, and mitigating the impact of climate change.
Workshops & Discussions
We conduct practical and issues-based workshops, dialogues & awareness raising related to environment, development, food & agriculture, wellbeing among other topics. These discussion sessions provide a platform for meaningful dialogue involving local communities and stakeholders.
Media & Awareness
As part of raising awareness and communicating information, the Local Futures Ladakh team also writes articles and produces short films on a range of topics
